The Execution
In order to be able to execute our projects successfully, as per our strategy and
our customer's requirements we provide special attention to aspects such as communication, planning,
controlling, knowledge management, tools, etc. While these aspects may appear fundamental in nature
they are also the key reasons for failure to delivering a successful global engagement - primarily
due to the ignorance of the importance they need although they may appear so obvious.
There are several factors that needs special attention, and needs to be managed carefully to ensure
successful global engagement - a few, but not the exhaustive list are - trust, communication, coordination,
motivation, knowledge, skills, risk, process, roles and responsibilities, reporting, etc.
We have been successful in delivering global engagements through "GLOBAL TEAMING" approach. This ensures
the following key considerations are taken care in addition to the actual technical service delivery -
Establish Global Delivery Framework - We have a proven global delivery framework, which will be tailores to have the
right delivery framework for the different locations being considered to deliver the services. Some of the key considerations are -
- Process and mechanism to manage cultural differences.
- Governance framework (cooperation, coordination and reporting) between locations.
- Framwework to manage the project, including risks.
- Knowledge and skill management framework.
- Right quality management framework.
Establish Global Project Plan - Once the Global delivery framework is established, we arrive at the global project plan with
following key consideraions -
- Team and organisational structure between locations.
- Approach to task allocation between locations (timme Zone, capability, etc.).
- Risk management with risk register.
Establish knowledge and skill management plan - knowledge and skill management across different locations is an important exercise
to have absolute clarity in how information will be not be lost in the global service delivery.
Following key considerations will be taken into account -
- Competencies/skills required by global team members in each location.
- Cultural requirements of each team member to address the cultural gap.
- Communication skills (e.g. language) that needs to be addressed.
- Suitable training plan will be created.
- Suitable tools and framework to manage knowledge will be established.
Establish governance to manage cross-location transactions - changes and problems are bound to happen in projects, not necessary in global service delivery
engagements, however it is important to have a well thought governance to address them in a global scenario.
Following key considerations will be taken into account -
- Conflicts and differences of opinion management between locations.
- Communication strategy with interface points defined between team memebers.
- Strategy for conducting frequent meetings, sharing reports between locations.
- Identification of common goals, objectives and rewards.
- Collaboratively establish and maintain ownership boundaries across locations.
